As Bank of Montreal (BMO)\u2019s chief transformation officer, Lynn Roger, puts it, \u201cspeed is the new business currency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Managers should consider agility as an overarching principle guiding both strategic and operational activities.\u00a0 Indeed, scholars argue that organizational agility can be broken down into five key components:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/os1-1030x561.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"490\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tools and mindset<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Forward-thinking organizations have already developed a number of different tools, or ways of working, to develop these five types of agility (see table):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-23424\" src=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/os2-1030x580.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1030\" height=\"580\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So it is about having the right tools, but also the right mindset.\u00a0 For example, Gallup measure agility by asking workers for their level of agreement with two general statements about their organizations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In my company, we have the right mindset to respond quickly to business needs.<\/li>\n<li>In my company, we have the right tools and processes to respond quickly to business needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Agility attracts talent<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployees who strongly believe their companies are well-equipped to meet changing business needs are also far more likely to advocate for their organizations as employers; about two-thirds (64%) &#8220;strongly agree&#8221; that they would recommend their company as a place to work, versus just 19% of employees who do not view their companies as agile\u201d, according to Gallup\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/241793\/steps-path-agility.aspx?g_source=link_wwwv9&amp;g_campaign=item_242192&amp;g_medium=copy\">extensive research<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Into action<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Spotify embodies agility \u2013 not just in their constant use of AB testing with customers for new product launches, but also internally. \u00a0For example, some team members recently questioned whether they needed the regular \u2018sprint planning meetings\u2019 that are a key feature of \u2018Agile Methodology\u2019 (see<a href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/blog\/everyones-talking-about-it-but-how-can-i-use-agile\/\"> previous blog<\/a> for the differences between this and organizational agility).\u00a0 The team considered this, and came back with the answer, \u201cDon\u2019t know, let\u2019s try without them and see how we get on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Organizational agility is something we should all strive for \u2013 not just the tech startups like Spotify.\u00a0 However, we need to make sure we think carefully about our own context, culture and customers to figure out the best way to apply these agility principles \u2013 as the turbulent lean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.skylance.org\/blog\/2018\/10\/6\/is-the-lean-startup-dead\">FastWorks programme<\/a> at GE clearly demonstrates.<\/p>\n<p>The digital transformation that is sweeping through industries everywhere means we all need to \u2018step on the gas\u2019 to keep up with our customers and competitors. \u00a0What will you do to build your strategic, customer, partnering, operational or learning agility today?<\/p>\n<p>Check out an interactive graphic of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/agile-and-digital-training\/\">agile &amp;
