{"id":21135,"date":"2015-10-12T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-10-12T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/global2020prd.wpengine.com\/insights\/mindset-and-behaviours-critical-to-organizational-transformation\/"},"modified":"2020-05-21T13:38:37","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T13:38:37","slug":"mindset-and-behaviours-critical-to-organizational-transformation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/insights\/mindset-and-behaviours-critical-to-organizational-transformation\/","title":{"rendered":"Mindset and behaviours critical to organizational transformation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The recent McKinsey study, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/insights\/organization\/the_science_of_organizational_transformations?cid=other-eml-alt-mip-mgi-oth-1509\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The science of organizational transformations<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0confirms our approach that, &#8220;companies that design initiatives to support desired shifts in mind-sets and behaviours see the most successful transformations.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The survey finds four key actions necessary to support this approach<\/p>\n<p>1 Role modelling<br \/>\n2 Fostering understanding and conviction<br \/>\n3 Reinforcing changes through formal mechanisms<br \/>\n4 Developing talent and skills<\/p>\n<p>When all 4 actions are taken this significantly improves the chances of a successful transformation.<\/p>\n<p>Formal mechanisms were used most often and role modelling least.<\/p>\n<p>It also found that transformations focusing only on improving weaknesses were less effective than those building on strengths but programs that worked on both were even more successful.<\/p>\n<p>The survey recommends engaging a range of influential people across the organization in the change effort rather than relying too much on only top leaders and OD professionals<\/p>\n<p>These findings match well with our own experience in supporting transformation. In creating more matrixed or globally integrated organizations we find that companies usually pay a lot of attention to formal mechanisms like organization structure and business systems and underinvest in role modelling, building conviction and developing talent and skills.
