Several big questions appeared as recurring themes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span>The challenges of centrally created training, delivered locally<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>How can you provide a local flavour to training that is created \u2018centrally\u2019?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>This is <\/span><a title=\"Global Leadership\" href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/global-working\/global-leadership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a problem we hear many times over,<\/a><span> but it seems particularly conspicuous in the context of Central and Eastern Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>For the most part, the answer is usually to add elements of locally generated content\/activity to plug gaps in local skills development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>This really is just an extension of standard good training practise \u2013 course content tailored to the needs of attendees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span>Multiple managers<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>The problem of multiple managers is exaggerated in tough economic times: \u2018head offices\u2019 will try and centralise as much as possible \u2013 create once, use many \u2013 and pool resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>This makes a lot of sense, but there are some genuine practicalities in implementing, particularly for the \u2018pooled resource\u2019. If they have to work in part with open, collaborative teams for part of the time, and for hierarchical teams for others, it can prove challenging for managers (who can fall back less on traditional power and authority) and employee alike.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>People facing these challenges may find some these resources useful:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst\"><span><span>&#8211;<\/span><\/span><a title=\"Influence without authority training\" href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/blog\/influence-without-authority-and-power-in-a-matrix-organization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Influence without authority<\/a><span>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\"><span><span>&#8211;<\/span><\/span><span>Tools for cross-cultural success:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\"><span><span><a title=\"The Onion - training\" href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/blog\/tools-for-cross-cultural-sucess-video-the-onion-tool\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The onion<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle\"><span><span><a title=\"The Culture Abacus\" href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/blog\/tools-for-cross-cultural-success-2-the-culture-abacus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The culture abacus<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoListParagraphCxSpLast\"><span>&#8211; <\/span><a title=\"Matrix management training\" href=\"https:\/\/www.global-integration.com\/blog\/matrix-management-training\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Matrix management training<\/a><span>:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span>Employee Mobility<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>One of the continued challenges in Central and eastern Europe is employee mobility.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>The complexity of languages and differences between the countries are clearly defined \u2013 linguistically, someone speaking Slovakian and someone speaking Hungarian will be mutually unintelligible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>Many successful multinationals have a widely spoken, accessible \u2018company language\u2019, be that German, French, or, more usually, English is a factor in the success of cross border operations, particularly where functions like purchasing and HR are delivered, at leastin part, centrally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>Whilst language training isn\u2019t an area that we focus on as a company, I have noted in my training of cross-cultural teams that having a single language is hugely helpful.Even Asian electronics companies are using English, and it\u2019s an absolute imperative when it comes to airlines\/pilots.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>However, for language training to be successful beyond a certain level, it needs to have been immersive training \u2013 not an evening course twice a week.
